Deliver Smooth Casing Deployment in Challenging Southeast Asia ERD Well...

Vulcan Completion Products has once again demonstrated the performance and reliability of its engineered centralizer solutions, following the successful deployment of PHAZER™: Z low‑torque, solid‑body centralizers in a highly deviated well for a major operator in Southeast Asia.
The operator faced a demanding extended‑reach drilling (ERD) environment with significant deviation, long tangent sections, and the potential for open‑hole washouts. After a detailed analysis and tailored modelling, Vulcan recommended its solid‑body zinc alloy PHAZER™: Z centralizers for both the 9‑5/8" casing and 7" liner runs — a decision that proved instrumental in achieving trouble‑free installation.
Engineered for Today’s Well Challenges
As the original designers and manufacturers of zinc‑alloy centralizers, Vulcan has continued to refine its technology using advanced manufacturing techniques.

The PHAZER™: Z is purpose‑built for friction reduction in ERD and long‑horizontal applications, delivering:
Low friction for reduced torque and drag during running‑in‑hole (RIH)
High axial and radial strength for demanding well conditions
Full 360° spiral blades for consistent stand‑off and improved cementing integrity
Free‑flow blade geometry for enhanced cement placement
Durable zinc alloy construction suitable for high‑temperature wells
Customizable OD options through precision machining
Sizes ranging from 2‑7/8" to 13‑5/8"
These features make the PHAZER™: Z the industry’s leading choice for high‑friction environments where predictable movement and reduced operational risk are essential.
Project Overview
9‑5/8" Casing Run
Final MD: 1,500 m.
TVD: 888.48 m.
Hole Size: 13‑3/8" casing × 12‑1/4" open hole.
Inclination: Up to 78°.
Centralizer Spacing: 1 per joint.
Minimum Standoff Achieved: 71.5% in washout sections.
7" Liner Run
Final MD: 2,440 m.
TVD: 1,310 m.
Hole Size: 9‑5/8" casing × 8‑1/2" open hole.
Inclination: 78° with a long 62° tangent.
Centralizer Spacing: 3 per 2 joints.
Minimum Standoff Achieved: 67.1% in washout sections.

Vulcan’s placement analysis and torque‑and‑drag modelling ensured optimal spacing to maintain stand‑off even in enlarged open‑hole intervals.
Operational Performance
Both the 9‑5/8" casing and 7" liner were successfully run to total depth without major issues. During the 7" liner installation, a few tight spots required wash‑down and reaming, but the operation remained fully under control — with low torque readings throughout.
The PHAZER™: Z centralizers enabled the casing to glide smoothly to TD, reducing friction, improving predictability, and minimizing operational risk.

A Proven Solution for ERD Applications
The operator expressed strong satisfaction with the performance, reliability, and efficiency of Vulcan’s engineered solutions. This case study reinforces why Vulcan’s PHAZER™: Z centralizers continue to set the benchmark for ERD and high‑deviation wells worldwide.
Engineered for performance. Tested beyond API standards. Proven when it counts.
